Debt is normal. Staying stuck does not have to be.

Freedom Over Debt started as a small movement of people questioning a system built to keep them paying forever. Today it is a free library of plain-English guides for anyone trying to get to zero.

What we do

We explain how debt really works: why minimum payments keep balances alive, what each relief option costs, how collectors are allowed to behave and how credit recovers afterwards. Then we point you to the next step, whether that is a budget, a phone call to your card issuer or a conversation with a specialist.

Our editorial standards

  • Education first. Every guide aims to help you make your own decision, including when an option is a bad fit.
  • No guarantees. We never promise savings, approvals or credit outcomes, and we label costs as typical ranges or estimates.
  • Reliable sources. We lean on primary sources such as the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, the Federal Trade Commission and the text of federal laws like the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
  • Kept current. Guides are reviewed and updated as rules and products change.
  • Independent. Partners never write or approve our content. See how we make money.

What we are not

We are not a lender, law firm, credit repair organization or debt relief company, and our guides are not legal, tax or financial advice. For decisions about lawsuits, bankruptcy or taxes, talk with a qualified professional, a legal aid office or a nonprofit credit counselor.
